Nick's Great (Digital) Hopes

This has been in work awhile, and now the launch date:

Nickelodeon launches an all-new, CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series onSaturday, Sept. 29, at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT)in a special one-hour television event ...

Considered one of the most popular kids’ television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases. The property also has translated into a significant consumer products business ...

Nick has a lot riding on the series.

A couple of years ago, the company decided to go all in for CG animation, but the move hasn't panned out quite as strongly as Nickelodeon desired. (Robot & Monster, which premieres tomorrow night, saw its crew laid off when Nick decided to see how the show performed before committing to additional episodes.)

Viacom is now making new episodes of old, hand-drawn favorites, and a hand-drawn spin-off of The Last Air Bender has done solidly in the ratings.

So whether Nick doubles down on more CG series or returns to its hand-drawn roots will depend on several million fickle kids.

I was hoping that TMNT fandom would die down myself but I don't suppose that will ever happen. Several million fickle kids indeed.
