We Need to Be Careful

Some of this blog's posts link to "Deadline Hollywood Daily". I guess we must watch our step.

Nikki Finke website sues for copyright infringement

... "Defendants have copied countless original and copyrighted articles from Deadline and posted these articles verbatim on Box Office World," the complaint says. "By stealing Deadline's content, defendants have generated Internet traffic, earned advertising revenue, and sold products ..."

I'm new here, but I don't think we have gotten any ad money or sold products.

You can link all you want. What you cannot do is copy the entire article and post it on your own website, regardless of ads or not. Because if you do, it is a violation of copyright law. I am sure our union backs copyright law as artists are protected by the law too.

What's interesting is that there's another animation website, one that used to be popular but no longer is, that frequently and apparently without permission copies and reposts entire articles from the TAG blog (they steal from many other websites, too). They do this while all the time screaming about wanting to protect artist's rights. It would be ironic if it wasn't pathetic.

Since we aren't in the business of writing articles for our livelihoods, having people copy our entire blog posts isn't that big a deal. It's a blog, not an article. And, we publish them for all to see.

I am unaware of other animation websites copying our posts in their entirety. However, whomever they are, are welcome to the information.

Steven, the site in question is the one that is in a screaming fit that Tag no longer posts their link, and then claims they don't care. Run by a passive-aggressive narcissist.
