Behind the scenes at The Simpsons

The British graffiti artist Banksy is credited with designing the opening sequence of Sunday night's episode of The Simpsons (the first 1:45 of the episode).

Kudos to KC Johnson for directing, and apologies for the advertising ... the cost of posting it legally.

More commentary on the opening.

Hey, thanks for the post! A lot of very talented artists worked hard on the sequence, in a short amount of time, to make it happen:

Character layout by Greg Checketts, Manny DeGuzman, and Jeff Johnson;
BG layout by John Liu;
Effects animation by Brice Mallier;
Timing by Larry Smith;
Color design by Dima Malanitchev;
Digital magic by Steve Mills.

Storyboard by Luis Escobar;
Designs by Eric Keyes, Ricky Manginsay, Kevin Moore, Debbie Peterson, Hugh MacDonald, and Jefferson Weekley.

Oh, and none of us threatened to walk out, of course. ;-) It's been fun to watch the buzz online today. Glad you liked it!

Thanks to this opening, we have successfully revealed to the general public that animated television is, in fact, outsourced to other countries. Now that we have them caught up on the last thirty or so years of animation process, maybe they can appreciate the hard work behind it more.

Maybe it was the overseas animation staff that was threatening to walk out!

Interesting that it even came up. Too bad Steve isn't here to find out what's REALLY going on over @ Starz/Film Roman
